‘Whitechapel in winter does make me quiver.’ She said, pulling her shawl around her shoulders.
Fog curled lavishly around streetlamps; like smoke from coal-fires had done, in the Victorian era.
‘It’s been said that the ghost of Jack the Ripper prowls these streets.’ He teased.
‘Oh, stop it!’ She grinned, thrusting her elbow into his side.
They walked along cobbled Commercial Road; which was once a market where the rich and poor intermingled and traded.
‘Hey, what’s that?’ She shrieked, pointing ahead into a doorway.
Their mouths fell, as they watched the grim shadow of a knife magnify over them.

Oh my. It seems we’re living in the new golden age for murder.
Oh yes, the Victorian ripper re-visits 🙂
Very atmospheric. Its fascinating that to this day their is still speculation as to the identity of the Ripper who was, as you know never caught.
I have been on the walking tour in London. It was a very cold night and it lasted for two hours. That night has stayed with me ever since, and so I thought I’d try to capture the atmosphere of it in words. Some say The Ripper was the Royal doctor, some say he was a local butcher – the mystery has made him one of horror’s legends 🙂
I’ve never done the tour but I have always intended to do so. I’ll go online now and take a look while its fresh in my mind.
Great. It’s a very good walking tour…it makes you see the Whitechapel area of London in a different light 🙂
Arrrrghhhh this is really terrifying. Right on the edge! Fantastic!
Thanks David 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the story.
Chilling Littlebird……I love it. Wonder how many know the whitechapel reference. I did a poster thing on my site called whitechapel 1888. Very short, but creepy. The Ripper is a rich character even when only implied.
Keep Inspiring
Thank You for your lovely words. I’ll visit your blog now and have look at the poster 🙂

I loved your first line of dialogue. It was rhythmic and lyrical. Reading it made me smile. 🙂
Thanks for your kind comment, it’s much appreciated. I’m glad it made you smile 🙂
